Martin Pospisil is not going anywhere.

The Calgary Flames announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed the rookie winger to a two-year contract worth $1 million per season.

The Slovakian was selected 105th in the fourth round

th

overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut for the Flames in early November, scoring a goal in his first game. He was an important part of the team, providing a physical, energetic presence in the second row alongside Nazem Kadri and Connor Zari.

“I think he's a real player,” Kadri said last month. “Obviously, that skill and production will develop over the course of his career and as he starts to figure out that consistency aspect of his game, but Pospi is a guy who's always willing to work, and that's something I really appreciate.

“He's great in forechecking and he can be physical and play when he needs to. His speed is another element that keeps him in the lineup.”

It depends

The 24-year-old scored four goals and seven assists from 37 penalties in 34 games. Among Flames regulars, he leads teams with 15.61 per 60 minutes. His +10 rating on the season ranks fourth among all rookies in the league.
