The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms with American defensive lineman Ricky Walker and, barring unforeseen circumstances, he is expected to sign with the team.

The six-foot-two, 287-pound linebacker made 17 starts on defense with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season, recording 37 defensive tackles and five sacks. The Newport News native has been with the team since 2021 and has 59 tackles, one special teams tackle and seven sacks.

The 27-year-old went undrafted out of Virginia Tech in the 2019 NFL Draft before signing with the Dallas Cowboys. The team waived him at the end of training camp before dealing him with the Tampa Bay Vipers and Cleveland Browns.

Pending free agents can negotiate with all league teams during the current window, which closes on February 11. Players can agree to contract terms with a specific team through 2024, but those deals are not legally binding and cannot be made. Will be completed or officially confirmed before free agency opens on February 13th.

The Stampeders open the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium.
