The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning shoppers across Canada Wednesday evening (Feb. 7) of a national recall of some lettuce due to possible listeriosis contamination.

The recall includes President's Choice brand and Taylor Farms brand Mexican-style street corn salad kits.

Product information affected by President's Choice: Chopped Mexican Style Street Corn Salad Kit, 285g, UPC 0 60383 03491 7, has a best-by date of FE 19, 2024.

Product Information Affected by Taylor Farms Mexican Style Street Corn Salad Kit (2 Packs), 2 x 335g, UPC 0 30223 06191 5, best before and including 24 FE 19.

In an email to Metroland, Loblaw Companies Limited confirmed Wednesday evening that the President's Choice salad kits were sold at Canada's Real Superstore, Fortinos, Loblaw, Valu-Mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs, No Frills, Partnership, Wholesale Club and Shoppers Drug Market. Ontario.

This recall is related to an outbreak in the United States

Products from Rizo-López Foods, Inc. in connection with the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak investigation in the United States. made using the returned cheese, the CFIA said.

“Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. manufactured cheeses, creams, or yogurts should not be eaten, sold, or served,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a recall notice.

The CFIA advises consumers to contact their doctor if they think they may have become ill from eating the recalled product.

Check to see if you have recalled products, the CFIA said, and if you do, “do not consume, service, use, sell or distribute recalled products. Recalled products must be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Listeria symptoms usually begin within two weeks of eating Listeria-contaminated food, but can begin as early as the same day or up to 10 weeks later, the FDA says.

Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea. If a more severe form of listeriosis develops, symptoms may include headache, neck stiffness, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, the FDA added.

According to the CFIA, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are especially at risk.

“Check your refrigerators and freezers for recalled products and throw them away. If you find frozen product without its original packaging and you can't tell if it's part of the recall, throw it away,” the FDA added.
