Power is out in downtown Calgary after a warehouse fire

Many downtown Calgary homes and businesses were left in the dark Tuesday night after a warehouse fire caused power outages in the city's core.

Calgary Fire and Enmax responded to the fire at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 9th Street, which caused the area to lose power.

According to the city, firefighters successfully extinguished the flames.

Due to the outage, several streets in the city center were closed for safety reasons.

Brigades had to restore traffic lights along 4th avenue, 5th avenue, 6th avenue. and 7th Avenue, along 4th Street.

To stay safe during power outages, Calgarians are asked to use light bulbs instead of light bulbs, turn off or unplug any electrical appliances and equipment to prevent damage from overloads when power is restored, and use extra blankets to stay warm when power returns.

Good practices include keeping a cell phone handy to stay aware of outage status, keeping one light on and off so you know when power is coming, and limiting the frequency of opening and closing the refrigerator. and freezer doors help keep food cool.

Camp stoves, kerosene heaters or barbecues should not be used indoors as they produce carbon monoxide. So do gas stoves that have been used as a heat source for long periods of time without venting.
