MVP Allen returns to Sea Bears – Winnipeg Free Press

The Winnipeg Sea Bears have begun building their 2024 roster with a franchise foundation.

Star guard Teddy Allen has agreed to a one-year contract with the Canadian Elite Basketball League franchise, the Sea Bears announced Wednesday morning.

“I can't wait to get back to work with my family in Winnipeg, where we started something special last year,” said Allen. “We have the best fans and organization. I wouldn't have it any other way.”

The addition of the 25-year-old reigning league MVP comes in the first week CEBL clubs are allowed to sign players from their protected lists.

In addition to Allen, Winnipeg's protected list includes point guard Glen Young and forwards Chad Posthumus, Shane Osayande and Stefan Ingo. All five played for Winnipeg in 2023.

The Sea Bears have until March 2nd to negotiate with those players. If an agreement is not reached by this time, the athletes can sign elsewhere.

Allen averaged 27.2 points per game last summer to lead the expansion club to a conference-best 12-8 regular season record.

The 25-year-old Phoenix product also matched the league's single-game scoring record with 42 points against the Scarborough Shooting Stars on June 2.

Allen also led all CEBL guards in rebounding with an average of 7.9 rebounds per game.
