Montreal man charged with threats to kill Canadian PM Trudeau – 2024-02-07

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canadian police have charged a Montreal man with X, who threatened to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in former Twitter posts, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with threats and will appear in a Montreal court on Wednesday, the RCMP said in a statement. The charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

RCMP said the charges were laid on Jan. 31 after a brief investigation into the man's “threatening comments,” but did not provide details.

Trudeau's office said it would not comment on the prime minister's security.
