A 30-year-old Montreal man is accused of threatening to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his X account.

Paul Clarisso was arrested on Jan. 31 and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, RCMP said.

The arrest followed a brief investigation by the RCMP's Integrated Homeland Security Enforcement Team following a report that Clarisse had made threatening comments.

The RCMP reminded the public in a statement “any threat to the sense of security” is taken seriously and “violent statements are not tolerated”.

He is “criminals may be subject to criminal liability involving serious penalties”.
