From runway success to arctic adventures, Miss Calgary has had an exciting year – DiscoverAirdrie.com

Airdronian Emily Marston's time as Miss Calgary is coming to an end. Although he won't be able to compete for the position again, he is very grateful for the experience he gained during the year.

“The first event during Miss Calgary was reading to school children and kindergarteners. We talked about climate change and environmental protection.”

Marston's main goal during his year in office was to raise awareness of environmental sustainability.

“I was able to represent Airdrie and Calgary for a week at the Stampede in Calgary. I just got back from the Arctic (Cambridge Bay and Yellowknife) where I connected with a lot of community members there and we talked about environmental protection.”

Marston also competed in the Miss Universe Canada 2023 pageant, where she placed third in runway modeling as Miss Calgary.

“It's a huge achievement for me because I was told I was too big to be a runway model. To be in the top three out of 60 girls at the biggest pageant in Canada is a big deal.”

Marston said he will take a year off from pageants to work on himself, rest and grow as a person. Having said that, Marston revealed that he has been asked to challenge for several international titles that he is considering.

“The year I spent as Miss World was really everything I had hoped for and more.”

Marston encourages any women between the ages of 18-28 who are interested in becoming Miss Calgary to try out.

“I'd like to pass the crown on to someone I know or someone from Airdrie.”

The Miss Calgary pageant will be held on March 15 and 16.
