Énergie Cardio went bankrupt

Fitness company Énergie Cardio says it has filed for bankruptcy and will close two of its locations.

The Quebec-based company filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 30, filing a notice of intent to restructure its operations.

As a result, two of its training centers were closed at Place Versailles in the eastern suburbs of Montreal and in Boucherville, known as “Pour elle”.

19 Énergie Cardio centers remain open and 14 are franchised.

In a Wednesday press release, Énergie Cardio President Claire Tremblay and Vice President Evelyn Canape wrote that the fitness sector has been “struck” by the pandemic, which has been forced to shut down amid public health measures.

“Over the past few hours, due to budgetary and cash management reasons, we have unfortunately had no choice but to continue with layoffs at our corporate training centers and at the franchisor level,” they explained.

Énergie Cardio officials say free training sessions and group classes will continue at the centers affected by the cuts.

The company has invited customers of the two closing centers to the Office de la protect du consommateur to seek compensation for the unused or prepaid portion of their memberships.

Claire Tremblay and Evelyn Canape bought Énergie Cardio in 2016.
