Calgary police officer charged with sexual assault – Calgary

A Calgary police officer has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).

In a release Wednesday afternoon, ASIRT said it is investigating allegations of sexual assault against a Calgary Police Service officer on October 13, 2020.

After analyzing the evidence gathered by ASIRT, investigators believe there are reasonable grounds to believe that a crime has been committed. The investigation was soon referred to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS).

ASIRT said the ACPS then advised the evidence met prosecution standards. ASIRT executive director Michael Evenson decided the officer should be charged.

On Tuesday, Const. Brandon Kahn was charged with sexual assault under Article 271 of the Criminal Code. ASIRT said he was released on bond and will appear in court on March 20.
