A woman has died after a house fire in Georgetown, police said

A woman died after a house fire in Georgetown on Wednesday, according to Halton Regional Police.

A woman died after a house fire in Georgetown on Wednesday, according to Halton Regional Police.

Police said in a news release that police were called to a home on Victoria Street at 5:20 a.m

When the officers arrived, the house was engulfed in flames and the fire had already spread to the house next door. Police said they evacuated neighboring houses.

Halton Hills firefighters extinguished the blaze, police added.

No one else was injured in the fire, and no one was found in the house. Police said the woman lived in the home where she died and her name has not been released.

Halton police said both its Criminal Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the circumstances of the fire.
