A fog warning is in effect for Montreal

Environment Canada issued a smog warning for the Montreal area on Wednesday.

The Met Office says high concentrations of pollutants are expected and will lead to poor air quality from midday to evening.

They warn that smoke is particularly harmful to asthmatic children and people with respiratory or heart disease.

These people are advised to avoid vigorous outdoor physical activity until the smoke warning has been lifted.

According to the Air Quality Index website, IQAir, Montreal is considered moderate in terms of air pollution.

Environment Canada is urging citizens to monitor warnings and forecasts.
