Two men have been charged in a private armed carjacking in Toronto

Two men are facing charges in connection with a series of armed carjackings hours apart in Toronto on Monday, police said.

Officers were called to the area of ​​Mount Pleasant Road and Manor Road in downtown Toronto for a report of a carjacking just before 2 p.m.

Allegedly, the victim was standing outside their car when an unknown man armed with a sharp object approached them. Later, the man demanded the car keys. The victim was not physically injured.

Police said the victim complied but quickly called 911, prompting police officers to respond and arrest the suspect inside the stolen vehicle.

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Alexander Berube of Toronto. He was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon and possession of criminal property under $5,000.

He was expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

A 24-year-old man was charged hours later with a private armed carjacking

Officers were called to another car theft in the area of ​​East Steeles Avenue and Markham Road in Scarborough.

In this incident, at approximately 19:30 in the evening, while the victim was sitting in the car, a man armed with a weapon approached the victim and demanded his car.

The woman got out of her car and the suspect drove away. He was not physically injured.

Police tracked down the suspect and arrested the man a short time later. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and found a replica firearm.

The man has been identified as Devansh Rajdeep, 24, of Toronto. He faces several offences, including robbery while armed with a firearm, fleeing police and dangerous use of a motor vehicle, among other charges.

He was expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

The two carjackings are not related, police said.
