Toronto Metropolitan University seeks sixth chancellor – News & Events

Toronto Metropolitan University has a history of distinguished, distinguished chancellors whose leadership and character have contributed to the growth of the institution. The Chancellor of Toronto Metropolitan University is the ceremonial head of the University and confers all degrees, honorary degrees, diplomas and certificates, and is an ex-officio member of the Board of Governors and Senate, promoting the priorities and interests of the University as its ambassador. . As Chancellor Janice Fukakusa's term comes to a close, TMU is searching for its next chancellor and invites all community members to submit nominations for this integral role.

TSU's distinguished chancellors, including J. Raymond Chang, John Craig Eaton, David Crombie, Lawrence Bloomberg, and most recently, Janice Fukakusa, have strengthened the connection between academic programs, research, and public good, and the social and economic well-being of students and scholars.

The following university chancellor joins TSU at a time of significant growth and change:

• TMU plans to open a new medical school in Brampton in the fall of 2025. The School of Medicine will offer a new model of primary care that is community-led and intentionally inclusive, and will train physicians whose cultural awareness and humility are essential. as their medical skills.
• In the fall of 2020, TMU opened the doors to the new Lincoln Alexander School of Law to the first cohort of law students to provide an advanced education with a focus on contemporary issues; this first class graduated in June 2023.
• Research at TMU is on a trajectory of success and growth. Research Infosource's 2023 list of Canada's 50 Best Research Universities ranked TMU among the top five comprehensive research universities in several collaboration and partnership categories, including third in non-profit research revenue growth with 74% growth and third in corporate research revenue growth the fourth is a 70 percent increase between 2018 and 2022.

The Chancellor's Search Committee invites nominations of individuals whose accomplishments will inspire our students and scholars, lend credibility to our strategies, and drive TMU forward with vigor and spirit.

Candidates must have experience building community partnerships, a connection to TMU and its vision and values, a proven track record in fundraising, and experience living with diversity, equity and inclusion.
