The Manitoba actor will be seen in Marvel's Echo

Marvel's newest series has a special connection to Manitoba.

The mini-series is called “Echo” and it's about a deaf, indigenous superhero. The made-for-Disney+ show stars Katarina Ziervogel of Manitoba as Taloa.

Ziervogel, a deaf actor from the Sagkeeng First Nation, said when he first found out he got the role, he and his family celebrated by breaking out a bottle of champagne.

“My mom was just happy and shocked. My stepfather cried a little bit,” she said in an interview through a translator on Tuesday.

“It was very interesting. It was a great day and a great memory.”

Ziervogel has been working in the entertainment industry for several years, but in behind-the-scenes roles. He said that he never imagined himself in front of the camera.

“I love being behind the scenes, especially in a franchise as big as Marvel,” he said.

“It was a great experience, very unique and very overwhelming at first. But the crew, the cast, everyone was amazing and I felt really good and comfortable on set.”
