'Shaked': SUV plows into two Northeast businesses

A customer was getting a manicure at a Northeast salon Tuesday afternoon when those moments turned out to be nail-biting.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., a silver Land Rover SUV lost control and crashed into 1440 52 St. went through the front of Amy's Nails and Spa on NE, missing a customer and a manicurist by several feet, said Brenda Lee, the business's mother. .

“One of the employees was doing a customer's nails when a car drove into the business next door — it was a very close call,” Lee said, adding that no one was injured.

“It's not like someone just stopped and hit the gas, it was very fast, 20 or 30 km/h.

“Everybody was pretty shaken up.”

The vehicle went through the south wall of the nail salon and into All Vape TransCanada, where one employee escaped injury, said manager Renee Williams.

“It's safe to say we're not going to open tomorrow,” Williams said.

“But I like to clean things – it could be a lot worse.”

Hanif Mawji is in a good position to clean his store, which was damaged by the collision, but the car stopped before entering his A to Z vacuum cleaner shop.

“The vape shop furniture and displays were pushed into my shop – it was crazy,” he said.

An SUV crashed into businesses in northeast Calgary

According to Mawji, he was vacuuming outside his shop when he heard a loud bang, which was briefly obscured by a cloud of dry dust.

“I ran outside because I thought the ceiling was sinking and then I saw what happened to the wall,” he said.

“Things are very difficult at the moment and I don't need it.”

According to witnesses, the woman driving the SUV was ejected from the vehicle after the collision.

Police said there were no injuries and the incident remains under investigation.
