Montreal Soccer Club has signed star forward Josef Martinez to a one-year contract

CF Montreal announced Tuesday that they have agreed to a one-season contract with star forward Josef Martinez.

The deal with the forward and 2018 MLS Cup MVP from Venezuela international comes with an option for the 2025 season using target money.

The Montreal Football Club did not specify the financial value of the deal.

The veteran played seven seasons in MLS, including six seasons with Atlanta United from 2017 to 2022. He also won the MLS Cup with Georgia in 2018.

Martinez joined Inter Miami last season and scored three goals and two assists for his team. In 27 regular season games for Miami, he had seven goals and one assist for a total of 12 goals and three assists in all competitions.

The 30-year-old striker has 105 goals and 17 assists in 161 MLS games. He is one of 13 players in MLS with at least 100 goals and is currently the ninth-highest scorer in Garber Circuit history, surpassing Canadian Dwayne De Rosario on July 5, 2023.

Before coming to North America, Martinez played in the Italian top division with Torino (2014-17), Swiss side Young Boys Bern (2012-14) and FC Thun (2013-14) and Caracas (2010-11). in Venezuela.

Internationally, Martínez has made 66 appearances for Venezuela since 2011, scoring 14 goals and participating in three World Cup qualifiers and four editions of the Copa America (2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021).
