Montreal police officer injured in hit-and-run

Montreal police (SPVM) say an officer was injured in a hit-and-run while investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in the Saint-Laurent area on Monday evening.

Around 6:20 p.m., two officers in a cruiser were investigating the scene on Halpern Street when they saw another vehicle approach them before quickly swerving away.

Police officers stopped the suspicious vehicle on Diab street.

As they exited their cruiser to speak with the driver, the suspect struck one of the officers.

Officers fired at the suspect vehicle.

SPVM says the suspect fled on foot and is still being sought.

A large perimeter has been set up and investigators have set up a command post. A canine department was also mobilized to find the suspect.

The injured police officer was taken to the hospital.

Montreal police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
