Montreal police investigate 4 fires in 2 hours

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating four fires in two hours.

The first happened at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at a commercial building on Boulevard Maurice-Duplessis, near 41st Avenue in the east Riviere des Prairie neighborhood.

“The police received a 911 call about an ongoing alarm,” explains Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesman for the Montreal police. “When the police arrived at the scene, they found that the window had been damaged and the fire started, which was quickly controlled by the fire department.”

Officials found a fire extinguisher inside.

The fire caused minor damage to the building.

Less than an hour later, at 2:20 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., two commercial buildings on Boulevard Marcel-Laurin near Boulevard Thimain in the Saint-Laurent district were targeted for suspected arson.

“There was minor damage to the windows,” Brabant said.

The latest incident happened at 3:35 a.m. at a commercial building on Monkland Avenue in the west Notre Dame de Grace neighborhood.

“The window is broken,” said Brabant. “We're talking about significant damage to this business.”

According to him, the second floor of the building was evacuated, but there were no injuries.

Safety perimeters have been set up to allow investigators from the Montreal police arson squad to examine the scene.

No arrests have been made.
