Lindholm scores twice as Canucks beat Hurricanes 3-2 – Winnipeg Free Press

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Elias Lindholm scored two power-play goals in Game 1 against Vancouver and JT Miller provided the winning goal in the Canucks' 3-2 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday night.

Veteran center Lindholm, who started his career with the Hurricanes, had one goal in each of the first two periods as the Canucks returned from the All-Star break to extend their scoring streak to 12 games.

Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser each had two assists. Thatcher Demko made 22 saves, including 12 in the third period.

Jordan Martinuk and Sebastian Aho scored for Carolina, which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Petr Kochetkov, playing for the Hurricanes for the first time since January 11, stopped 16 shots.

FLAMES 4, BRUINS 1

BOSTON (AP) — Andrei Kuzmenko scored a goal in his Calgary debut, Nazem Kadri had three assists and the Flames beat Boston.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and two assists and Connor Zary also scored for the Flames, who held Boston to five shots in the second period and bounced back from the All-Star break for the Bruins.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 21 shots for Calgary. Boston native Noah Hanifin added the final goal for the Flames.

Pavel Zacha scored on a power play early in the third period as they opened a seven-game homestand with a consistent performance. Jeremy Swaeman finished with 25 saves for Boston.

DEVILS 5, AVALANCHE 3

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — John Marino scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period and Vitek Vanecek made 35 saves as New Jersey snapped a two-game skid.

Jesper Bratt, Dawson Mercer, Chris Tierney and Erik Haula also scored for New Jersey. Nico Hischier had two assists.

Trailing 3-1 just over eight minutes into the third, Colorado guards Cale Makar and Samuel Girard scored 29 seconds apart to tie the game. The Avalanche scored a league-leading 42 goals and 158 points from defensemen.

Mikko Rantanen also scored and Jonathan Drouin had two assists for the Avalanche.

Rookie Justus Annunen played for Colorado after Alexander Georgiev played in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. He made 26 saves.

STARS 2, SABER 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Jake Oettinger stopped 47 shots and Sam Steele scored midway through the second period to help Dallas beat Buffalo for the fourth straight time.

Matt Duchene also scored as Dallas celebrated Joe Pavelski's 1,300th NHL game, continuing the team's strong run of late. Pavelski, 39, a native of Wisconsin, became the seventh American-born player and 69th overall to reach the career milestone.

Tage Thompson scored for Buffalo, which won its fourth straight game of the season.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has stopped 28 shots in a game between teams that have had a good breather since January 27th.

FLYERS 2, PANTHERS 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Noah Cates scored the go-ahead goal 2:36 into the third period and Philadelphia snapped a five-game losing streak.

Cates' goal was his first since October 24, snapping a 22-match scoring drought for the 25-year-old forward.

Travis Konecny ​​also scored for Philadelphia and Samuel Ersson made 20 saves.

Carter Verhege scored for the Panthers. Anthony Stolarz stopped 23 shots after giving Stars goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky some rest.

PINGINS 3, DELIVERY 0

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Tristan Jarry stopped 24 shots for an NHL-leading sixth game this season and Pittsburgh shut out Winnipeg.

Brian Rust, Jeff Carter and Kris Letang scored. Jarry improved to 5-0 against Winnipeg with two of his 19 career shutouts.

Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for the Jets, who lost their fourth straight game after winning 10 of 11.

Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan earned his 430th victory in his 800th NHL game and Jake Guentzel had his 500th assist for the Penguins, who have won three straight and four of five. Pittsburgh has scored in 16 of its last 21 games.

CANADA 5, CAPITALS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkowski each scored twice as Montreal suffered its fifth straight loss at Washington, Alex Ovechkin scored his 10th goal of the season and 832nd of his NHL career.
