Calgary police have arrested two after a failed carjacking attempt

Calgary police have charged a man and a woman after an attempted carjacking in the city's northeast.

Investigators say around 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, a black Ford F-150 blocked the man's path as he tried to pull out of the parking lot of the store at 5260 Falsbridge Gate NE.

According to police, the driver of the F-150 approached the victim's vehicle with a shotgun and took control of the vehicle.

The victim left his car and ran into a nearby store.

Investigators say the suspect left the victim's car in the truck because he couldn't start it because it was a standard car.

About 30 minutes later, a woman was clearing snow from her car on Rundleson Way NE when she was approached by an F-150.

According to the police, the woman got locked in the truck and drove off when she saw the truck driver approaching with a gun.

Then around 5:10 a.m., the man was sitting in his car on Pinepoint Drive NE when two men approached the car and a man with a shotgun demanded the victim get out of the car.

The driver fled the scene on foot while a man and woman with a gun got into the vehicle, police said.

According to the investigators, the suspects could not start the car and again left the scene in their truck.

Officers found the F-150 abandoned at the corner of NW 26th and NE 56th Streets.

At approximately 6 a.m., the police, with the help of the canine unit, located and arrested the two suspects.

Levi Barrett, 21, of Calgary, was charged with:

· Three counts of robbery with a firearm
· One count of reckless use of a weapon
· One count of possession of a firearm without a licence
· One count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
· One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
· One count of theft of a motor vehicle
· One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000
· Two numbers of insurance
· One count of lack of registration
· One count of driving without a valid operator's license

Emma Jessup, 21, of Calgary, was charged with:

· Three counts of robbery with a firearm
· One count of reckless use of a weapon
· One count of possession of a firearm without a licence
· One count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
· One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
· One count of theft of a motor vehicle
· One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000

Both suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday, February 9.
