Calgary crash injures man driving stolen car

Calgary police are investigating a crash on Deerfoot Trail that sent one person to hospital on Tuesday.

The collision happened in the southbound lanes near the Stoney Trail SE exit ramp just after 1 a.m.

Police said the lone stolen vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into a light pole.

The impact sent the car airborne and landed in a nearby grassy median, police said.

The driver of the Uplander, a 43-year-old man, was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police said while impairment was not a factor in the crash, speed is being investigated as a factor.

Anyone with surveillance or video footage of the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
