A gas leak has been shut down on Queen Street in downtown Toronto

A gas leak blocked part of Queen Street in downtown Toronto Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were called to Queen, west of Spadina, about a leak around 1:10 p.m.

Police say the leak happened after an excavator hit a gas line.

Closed in both directions between Queen Spadina and Peter Street. Motorists are asked to consider alternative routes.
