Winnipeg police are asking for the public's help in finding a man accused of two counts of attempted murder in a 2021 Furby Street hotel shooting that may have been linked to a street gang feud.

Major crimes detectives obtained a warrant last March for Yusuf Abdulkadir Ali, 28, in connection with the November 25, 2021, shooting that left two men clinging to life in a room in the 100 block of Furby Street around 8 p.m. .

Officers on patrol who were called to a home on Furby Street for a report of shots fired found 35-year-old and 29-year-old men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were taken to hospital in critical condition but have since recovered, police said.

“It is believed to be a gang-related incident,” said Winnipeg Police spokesperson Const. Claude Chancey said he did not know what gangs may have been involved.

Chancey said Tuesday that investigators are still trying to locate Ali, who may still be in the city or may have fled to another jurisdiction.

“It's hard to tell at this point — they don't know where he is, so they're asking for the public's help,” Chancey said.

“Investigators have been and continue to work diligently on this case.”

Ali has two convictions for drug trafficking in 2016 and 2018.

He pleaded guilty to the first charge in October 2016 and was sentenced to 15 months in prison, one year of probation and a 10-year weapons ban.

In October 2017, WPS firearms and gang investigators executed a narcotics warrant at an apartment complex on Waverly Street.

When police knocked on the door one evening that month, they found Ali in the apartment's living room playing video games while cooking cocaine on the stove, the court heard in October 2018 sentencing him and his co-defendant. .

Federal Crown prosecutor Raegan Rankin told the court police seized a total of about 31/2 kilograms of crack and powder cocaine, among other items.
