2 kindergartens evacuated after a gas leak sparks fire on Montreal's south shore.

On Wednesday morning in Montreal's South Shore, Que. Two cars caught fire in Longueuil, prompting authorities to evacuate two nearby kindergartens.

According to Longueuil police, the fire started at 10 a.m. on West Cure-Poir Boulevard after an excavator hit a gas line.

Images from the scene showed a long plume of orange flames flying over a residential area. According to the police, two vehicles were set on fire.

Garderies Pierrot La Lune and Mon Empreinte à Moi were safely evacuated and no children were injured, police said.

As of 1:30 p.m., Cure-Poirier Boulevard West is closed in both directions between Westgate and Cartier streets.
