A stolen Calgary car was used as a getaway vehicle in a Toronto-area home invasion

Police in the Greater Toronto Area say a car stolen in an armed carjacking in Calgary months ago was used as a getaway vehicle in a violent Christmas Eve home invasion.

The investigation into the incident began when officers responded to a report of a home invasion in Vaughan, Ont. December 24, 2023 in the morning.

“Three masked suspects forced their way into the home, assaulted and held the occupants at gunpoint while demanding money,” York Regional Police said.

When officers arrived, they encountered three of the suspects and the officer fired multiple shots.

“One suspect was arrested and the two fled the scene,” police said. “One of the suspects dropped the fired firearm and it was confiscated. No one was seriously injured. The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) appealed to their mandate.”

Investigators say they saw a black sedan fleeing the area. Police later learned that the getaway car was stolen during an armed carjacking in Calgary on Nov. 10, 2023.

In the ensuing investigation, police identified four other suspects, who have now been arrested and face dozens of combined charges.

During the investigation, police say they recovered a sawed-off shotgun (pictured below).

“Investigators are releasing images of the accused because they believe they are part of a larger criminal network and may be known only by street names,” the statement said.

The following suspects have been charged:

  • Lorryn Wolfe, 33, of Onion Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan
  • Ali Mohammed, 26, from Toronto
  • Kesworth Bassarag, 32, of Toronto
  • Jamie Lee Tuotoose, 36, of Onion Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan
  • Elsie Jimmy, 35, Thunderchild First Nation, Saskatchewan

At the time of the home invasion, Wolff was wanted by several law enforcement agencies in the West for unrelated offenses, police said. It has also been linked to gun ban orders.

Bassaragh was on parole and was bound over by two weapons prohibition orders, and Tuotoose was also bound over by weapons prohibition orders.
