The Stamps' dynamic duo is looking for bigger and better things this season

Linebackers Micah Ave and Cam Dodge are the heartbeat of the Calgary Stampeders defense.

The dynamic duo put up impressive numbers in 2023-24.

In his second season with the Stamps, Judge had 90 defensive tackles, five interceptions and a touchdown.

In his first season with the Red and White, Awe set a franchise record for defensive tackles with 134. That was the third-highest total in CFL history, but Ave says he wants more.

“I honestly didn't like the way I played last season,” Ave said.

“So this year is like a renewal. Some people are happy with where they are. Yeah, I broke the record, yeah, I'm third all-time, but that doesn't mean anything to me because it's all about winning championships.”


They know each other

Last season, Judge and Ave played together for the first time.

This season will be the first time both of them have played with a linebacker for more than one season.

According to the judge, dating helps them take things to another level.

“It's huge,” he said.

“Since the first day of practice, we've been talking about the little things defensively. Last year, especially since he's new, he just got his work done. Now his work is behind him, so we're thinking about how we can make plays and stuff, so that's good. happened.”


Adhesive for protection

Head coach Dave Dickenson knows he can count on Ave and Judge to get the job done.

He said they drive the bus for protection.

“They work very hard and they are leaders,” Dickenson said.

“Both have good speed, they've got a little bit of offense and they like to tackle.”

“We have some good competition this year, but I think those two are the glue that holds our front and back together defensively.”


Seasons that change life

Awe and Judge both had life-changing seasons.

Au and his wife Megan welcomed their first child in the off-season.

Awe says it will change your perspective.

“Every decision I make now on and off the football field has an additional reason to do so; that's my reason Raelyn.'

The judge got married last month.

According to him, not much has changed for him.

“(It) took me a while to get used to putting my ring on my finger while playing football. Other than that, nothing too crazy,” he said with a laugh.

The Stampeders will play their first pre-season game on Saturday afternoon as they host the BC Lions.
