Daily Habs: Canadiens Trade Deadline, Slafkowski, Waiver

Check out the Montreal Canadiens news, highlights and stories you missed on Tuesday.

Habs news

  • The Montreal Canadiens may have traded their most coveted trade chip when they moved Sean Monahan, but it doesn't look like Kent Hughes is done. There are plenty of options for the Habs before the NHL trade deadline, including the possibility of trading another veteran. (What's next for the Canadiens entering the NHL trade deadline?)
  • The Canadiens traveled to Washington and torched the Capitals thanks to two goals from Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkowski. Slafkowski, in particular, played with great confidence, both of his goals coming from clean shots rather than rebounds. Sniper Cole Caufield also extended his point streak to 10 career games. All things considered, it was a very encouraging win, despite the lack of talent in the capital's squad. (Canadiens: Suzuki and Slafkowski's rushing attack torched Washington)
  • Slafkowski, Caufield and Suzuki broke the Habs, but we have to praise Arber Hekage's streak. The 22-year-old blue-collar pilot has had another incredible journey. He continues to lead all Canadiens defensemen in the important dimensions of 5v5 possession. If we ignore the stats, the vague narrative that Hekaid needs to work on his defensive game has no basis in reality.

  • Montreal Canadiens legend Nick Bonino has been waived by the New York Rangers. (New Jersey Devils)
  • Nashville Predators 2020 first-round pick Yaroslav Askarov is considered one of the best goaltending prospects in the world, and he showed why with his performance during the AHL All-Star Classic. (Nashville Predators)

  • For the sake of the team and the future, the Philadelphia Flyers must find a way to get Marc Staal in the lineup and on the ice more often. Staal, 37, has appeared in just three of the Flyers' last 13 games. Since Jamie Drysdale arrived via trade with the Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia has carried eight quarterbacks on its roster. Staal, the elder statesman of the group, has been strange every night. (Philadelphia Flyers)
