NHL Draft Lottery: Calgary Flames go ninth overall

The Calgary Flames will be selected ninth overall in the 2024 National Hockey League (NHL) draft.

The league held its annual draft lottery Tuesday afternoon to determine the draft order for the 16 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs.

The Flames, who finished ninth from the bottom of the league standings, gained five percentage points in the lottery for the top pick in the draft.

But after the lottery balls were settled, the Flames were left with the ninth pick.

The rest of the draft order remained as designed, with the San Jose Sharks coming out on top.

Here is the full draft order for non-playoff NHL teams:

  2. Chicago Blackhawks
  3. Anaheim Ducks
  4. Columbus Blue Jackets
  5. Montreal Canadiens
  6. Utah
  7. Ottawa Senators
  8. Seattle Kraken
  9. Calgary Flames
  10. New Jersey Devils
  11. Buffalo Sabres
  12. Philadelphia Flyers
  13. Minnesota Wild
  14. Pittsburgh Penguins
  15. Detroit Red Wings
  16. St. Louis Blues

Boston University forward Maclin Celebrini may be the top pick in this year's draft, finishing the year as NHL Central Scouting's top skater in North America.

Anton Silaev, the defenseman of the Nizhny Novgorod team of the KHL, took the lead in the scouts' rating among European skaters.

The NHL draft is scheduled for June 28-29 in Las Vegas.
