Calgary Weather: Temperatures will drop mid-week, with more rain

Tuesday started with heavy fog in parts of Calgary.

A mixture of saturated ground plus moderate nighttime evaporation and minimal winds means that the air closest to the surface has reached maximum saturation, creating pockets of dense fog.

Winds are expected to be milder for most of the day on Tuesday, so fog will mix in as incoming solar radiation begins to warm the surface again.

Southern Alberta is stuck between a cold low in Saskatchewan and a cold front from the north, leading to an unsettled day Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's cooler day.

Rain and severe thunderstorms are possible in and around Calgary Tuesday evening, with more persistent showers expected Wednesday.

Although temperatures will rise after Wednesday, it will be another five to six days before Calgary sees its seasonal daytime highs.

Nighttime lows will be slightly above seasonal averages (4C), but some low-lying communities or suburban areas could approach the freezing mark.
