A provincial by-election date has been set for former premier Stefansson's vacant seat

Voters at the Tuxedo polling station now know when they will be at the polls.

Election Day is June 18th, with advanced polling stations open from June 8th to June 15th.

The by-election was called after former Prime Minister Heather Stefanson announced her retirement from politics in April.

Stefanson was first elected to the legislature in November 2000. She became the leader of the Progressive Conservatives in 2021 and the first female premier of Manitoba.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as (a member of the legislature), as a minister and as the first female prime minister,” Stefanson, 53, told the House in April.

“These roles have allowed me to serve Manitobans and help pave the way for future generations of women in public service.”

Voting information

Registered voters in Tuxedo will receive a voter information card in the mail that confirms they are registered to vote and tells them where and when they can vote.

Canadian citizens who are 18 years of age or older on election day and have lived in Manitoba for at least six months are eligible to vote.

Voters who did not receive a voter card or received incorrect information can visit the Elections Manitoba website or return to their office by May 30 to update their information.

Unregistered voters can vote if they show their identity card and take an oath at the polling station.

A complete list of acceptable forms of ID can be found at Elections Manitoba website.
