The husband-and-wife duo debuts tonight on CBC Calgary

Today at 5pm a new era begins for CBC Calgary.

Rosa Marchitelli and Rob Brown will sign on as the new anchors of CBC News Calgary at 5, 5:30 and 6 on CBC.

Couples don't just appear on TV together. Off the air, they are a couple. They are married and have three young sons – unusual in television.

“Honestly, we're not quite sure how it's going to play out,” Brown said. “We have to see. I think it will be an interesting trip.”

“It's a work in progress,” Marchitelli added in an interview with the Calgary Eyeopener on Monday.

Marchitelli said the couple adopted some rules to try to separate their home and work lives.

The couple moved from Vancouver to Calgary earlier this month. Brown was a reporter and anchor for CTV News. Marchitelli is originally from Calgary, but was most recently a reporter and anchor at CBC Vancouver. He was also a journalism instructor.

Marchitelli believes the co-host format gives CBC News Calgary much more flexibility at 5, 5:30 and 6 by allowing the pair to showcase their reporting skills directly from the field.

“We're both shaping up. We're hoping to be the anchors that announce the stories as well as deliver the work that everyone in the studio has been putting together all day.”

Brown said their age would also be an advantage.

“Given the demographics in this city, I think it's beneficial,” Brown said. “We're a young couple with young kids. We've got issues like everyone else. So we're putting editorial first in terms of shaping the show.”

The new broadcast team includes meteorologist Craig Larkins.

CBC Calgary has been delivering the evening television news since the early 1970s.
