A baby penguin at the Calgary Zoo

Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo officials have gendered the newest additions to the Penguin Plunge.

The Humboldt penguin chick hatched on June 5, and officials announced Wednesday that it is a boy.

The little boy spends his time with his parents Inca and Enrique for the first time in the pit built in the outdoor area of the exhibition.

“We expect the chick to start coming out onto the Penguin Plunge beach, possibly later this summer,” the zoo said in a social media post.

“At this point, lucky visitors may see him poking his head out of the hole.”

In a video posted on social networks of the zoo, one of the parents is seen pulling the head of the chick out of the hole, which is standing nearby.

The baby's name will be announced soon.
