WestJet launches new Calgary-Seoul service

The WestJet Group has marked the further expansion of its long-haul network with the launch of its first flight to Seoul, South Korea.

WestJet Flight 86 from Calgary International Airport (YYC) has scheduled a direct connection between Alberta and South Korea.

This new route furthers WestJet's commitment to expand its global network and strengthen the strong ties between Canada and South Korea. It will now strengthen travel and trade links between Canada and Asia.

John Weatherill, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, WestJet Groupemphasized the importance of this new direction.

The new Calgary-Seoul route will meet the growing demand for travel between Canada and South Korea.

Due to historical ties, immigration, tourism and business travel are increasing between the two countries.

South Korea is also a major source of Canadian international students, reflecting the growing cultural exchange between the two countries.

Increase trade and cargo transportation opportunities

The service offers a capacity of 60 tons of cargo per week, supporting the airline's goal of strengthening trade relations between Canada and South Korea.

South Korea is an important trading partner, ranking seventh in terms of total volume and sixth in imports and exports of Canada.

WestJet's direct connection will streamline the import and export process of electronics, e-commerce goods and general cargo, facilitating the efficient flow of trade between the two countries.

“We are excited to offer Canadians a familiar and convenient way to explore South Korea,” concluded Weatherill.

WestJet prioritizes the passenger experience by offering a superior flight experience on the Calgary-Seoul route. Passengers can expect a delicious selection of Western and Korean cuisine alongside a curated selection of Korean entertainment options.

In addition, announcements will be made in Korean to ensure a comfortable and familiar journey for Korean-speaking passengers.

The airline's codeshare agreement with Korean Airlines allows passengers to connect non-stop to six other Asian cities outside of Seoul.

This partnership offers a convenient one-ticket option with baggage allowance and WestJet Dollar rewards, allowing passengers to explore a wide range of destinations in Asia without the hassle of multiple bookings and baggage claims.

Calgary hub strengthens international network

WestJet's nonstop service to Seoul will join its growing network of transoceanic destinations available this summer.

Passengers flying from Calgary can connect to popular destinations such as Tokyo and seven European destinations, further strengthening WestJet's position as a leader in international travel.

The recent announcement of the seasonal Calgary-Tokyo service to a year-round route further strengthens WestJet's commitment to expanding its presence in Asia.
