A Calgary nursing home has gone viral on Tik Tok

It didn't take long for Bill Ouellet to make his mark on the Rocky Ridge retirement community, and now the 83-year-old is becoming a household name.

Ouellet lived at Rocky Ridge for about five months and during that time became a fixture at the nursing home's social events and social media pages.

“He's just the life of the party,” said Kimberly Smith, marketing manager at Rocky Ridge. “I mean, you know right away he's the superstar that social media needs.”

Ever since childhood, Ouellet has featured in several of Rocky Ridge's social media posts, so when he was asked to make a quick Valentine's Day video for his TikTok page, he didn't think much of it.

“They spelled it all out for me,” Ouellet said. “So I just laid down at the bottom of the stairs and pretended to fall, then got up and said, 'I've fallen…help you!' I said. Then I jumped up and danced.'

Tik Tok users around the world can't seem to get enough of Ouellet's smooth moves.

Bill, an 83-year-old Rocky Ridge resident, became famous on Tik Tok for his dancing.

So far, the video has garnered over 3.2 million views and over 13,000 comments on the app.

“Someone said, 'Is he married?' he asked. Someone said “hmm he's not bad!” said,” Ouellet said.

Others responded to the video, saying, “Shut up, my mom is on this app” and “She's having fun.”

“I can't believe it, Germany and Russia were watching this for goodness sake, I wonder why!” Ouellet said.

But Rocky Ridge Lifestyle Manager Andrea Aikins isn't surprised the video has gotten international attention.

“With this generation, not many people have TikTok,” Aikins said. “But their family members do it, their grandkids do it, it brings an audience to see it and they love it.”

Both Aikins and Smith have big plans for Oullet, who has her own TikTok account.

But Oullet doesn't care about online fame, she just puts a smile on people's faces.

“I have a theory. Laughter is the best medicine,” Ouellet said. “If I can make everyone laugh, they'll be healthier.”
