Good stuff…

Because the Cavaliers will need both forwards in scoring form if they hope to advance to the 2024 Canadian Championship.

“Yeah … we've got a big challenge ahead of us,” said Shaw, who is in Tuesday's Cup quarter-final second leg against hosts and Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

“We have to show our character going to Vancouver,” Shaw continued. “They are obviously the best side in MLS. But we are going with great confidence to change this result.”

Indeed, after a 2-1 loss to the Whitecaps in the first leg at ATCO Field earlier this month, Shaw & Co. requires a similar twist in the rematch. Specifically, the Cavs need at least two goals and at least one from the Whitecaps to put themselves in position to pull off a West Coast upset.

Anything less will see them eliminated to win the Voyageurs Cup – the equipment awarded to the last club left in the annual domestic football tournament.

The Fourteen Foot team kicked off this year's edition, while the Cavalry will be hoping to reach the final four with a win in the quarterfinals.

“It's a unique opportunity,” said Shaw, whose header against the Whitecaps in the first leg helped the Cavaliers pull off a potential upset. “It's not every day to play against an MLS team. So it's up to each of us who are part of the club to go out, fight, perform well and get results.”

Arguably the biggest performances came from Shaw, who suddenly had two strikes in the Cavaliers' last three matches, and Warszewski, who had a club-best four goals from all competitions this season.

They were the leading scorers for the Cavs in their 2-2 draw with York United on Saturday night.

“I think I thought it was two points down,” said Shaw, who scored in the Canadian Premier League contest at ATCO Field before Warszewski scored two goals – six minutes apart – on a 24th-minute penalty kick by York United. at the beginning of the second half.

Shaw then scored a marker in the 72nd minute to help the home team to a positive result.

“We had 20 minutes where they were able to come at us and get their goals,” Shaw said. “We showed some resilience and managed to get a draw.

“But I think we could have been a little more brutal, myself included.”

His player has agreed to a very exciting game that leaves the Cavaliers (1W-4D-1L) behind York United (2-1-3) in the CPL standings.

Shaw himself scored three dangerous headers in the first half before scoring in the second half.

“I think we needed to score that second goal … to breathe a little bit because they went after it,” Cavalry GM/head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said. “And fair play to York – they got it for us. Until we made adjustments in the first 15, 20 minutes of the second half, then we finished very strongly.

“We got the point back,” continued Wheeldon, who also saw superstar defender Daan Klomp parry York keeper Thomas Vincenzi's shot and then head onto the post with the game level at two.

“The boys are not happy with the goals conceded (by goalkeeper Marco Carducci). They owned it. But they must stop making these mistakes now. So there has to be a level of responsibility.”

Against Vancouver, on the other hand, the onus will be on Shaw and Warszewski — not only because they've been the biggest producers of late, but also because the Cavs will be without superstar forward Ali Mouss and, possibly, dynamic midfielder Sergio. Camargo for Tuesday's tilt.

Moussa is still nursing an ankle injury, while Camargo strained his leg at halftime of Saturday's match.

No news is good enough for the Whitecaps to be upset.

“There's no excuse for that, of course,” Wheeldon said. “And we have cojones.”

Plus, the Cavs always take a chance given their culture and history.

“We're undefeated in five, so it's glass half full or glass half empty depending on how you want to look at it,” Wheeldon added. “We're a half-full club that only thinks we can get better.

“I'm always up against them now. “We can be better. We can do it better and we're putting it into practice.' Now it's about execution.”

They hope to be executed in Vancouver.
