Porter begins Ottawa – Winnipeg services

On May 16, 2024, Canadian operator Porter launched a new daily service between Ottawa and Winnipeg.

Further expanding its operations outside of Ottawa, Porter has launched a new daily service to Winnipeg. The service will be operated by the carrier's Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

The Canadian operator currently has 33 E195-E2s, with a further 42 on order from the Brazilian manufacturer. Each aircraft has a total of 132 seats in a 2-2 configuration.

This coming summer season, the operator will have 16 non-stop routes from Ottawa. Not only this, but passengers traveling from Winnipeg can connect to the following routes –

  • Boston
  • Charlottetown
  • Fredericton
  • Halifax
  • Moncton
  • New york
  • Thunder Bay
  • Toronto-Pearson
  • Toronto City
  • St. John's

First up is Kevin Jackson, President of Porter Airlines, commenting on their new Ottawa – Winnipeg service. “This summer, Porter will offer more daily flights from YOW than any other carrier. The increase in destinations and frequency reflects our commitment to providing more service to Ottawa and improving overall travel options for the region.”

Second, in addition to Jackson's comments, said Ottawa International Airport Authority President and CEO Marc LaRoche. “We are pleased to congratulate Porter Airlines on the launch of a new non-stop flight to Winnipeg, Manitoba.”

“This route is another important milestone in Porter's rapidly expanding YOW hub, further improving connectivity for travellers. As Canada's capital region airport, it is critical that YOW provides excellent air connections to provincial capitals like Winnipeg while strengthening the connections between our communities.”

“Both Ottawa-Gatineau and Winnipeg offer an array of exciting attractions and events for people to enjoy, making the new operation a welcome addition for travelers looking for seamless access to these vibrant destinations.”

Finally, Nick Hayes, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority, said, “We are pleased to have Porter Airlines expand its presence at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport and help bring more flights to important destinations.”

“In talking to our community, we've heard time and time again that choice when it comes to communication is critical. This valuable route to Ottawa and all the opportunities it opens up through Porter's network will provide more opportunities for Manitobans, stimulating new opportunities for business and tourism.”
