Luton relegated from Premier League after one season – Winnipeg Free Press

LUTON, England (AP) – Luton have been relegated after just one season in the Premier League.

The team joined Sheffield United and Burnley in relegation to the second-tier Championship after losing 4-2 at home to Fulham on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Luton needed a win against Fulham and a loss at Burnley to Nottingham Forest, who started the day in fourth-to-last place. It also required a 12-goal swing on goal difference in Luton's favour. Forest won 2-1.

This meant that all three promoted teams were immediately relegated

All three teams that were promoted last season were denied relegation for the first time since 2018.

It is Luton's first year in the top flight since the 1991-92 campaign – the last season before the creation of the Premier League.
