Winnipeg police: Man charged after officers seize guns, drugs

A 23-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after police seized drugs, cash and several weapons early Saturday morning.

Police said they received a report of a man in possession of a firearm that led them to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue. When officers arrived at 6 a.m., they arrested the man and three other adults without incident.

According to police, several items were “in plain sight” and confiscated as evidence. These include:

  • Colt .41 caliber revolver confirmed stolen;
  • The air pistol was changed to accept .22 caliber ammunition;
  • folding stick;
  • butterfly knife;
  • Ammunition of different calibers;
  • Approximately 60 grams of cocaine (estimated street value $6,000);
  • Approximately 56 grams of fentanyl (estimated street value $8,300); and
  • Approximately 233 grams of psilocybin (estimated street value $2,300).

Police also seized approximately $2,300 in cash and packing materials.

The 23-year-old man is facing the following charges:

  • Two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon;
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing that possession is unauthorized;
  • Two counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition;
  • Possession of firearms obtained through criminal means, prohibited or restricted weapons;
  • Possession of a firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order;
  • possession of a prescribed substance for the purpose of illegal trafficking – cocaine;
  • Two counts of Possession of Legal Substances for Sale; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000.

He was also arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with a condition of a release order.

A 27-year-old woman was also charged with possession of a controlled substance but released on an appearance notice.

A 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been released without charge.
