Coeur d'Alene man arrested in 2008 identified as serial killer in 4 unsolved Calgary murders | Spokane News

COEUR D ALENE, Idaho – A man arrested in Coeur D'Alene in 2008 has been identified as a serial killer from four unsolved murders in Calgary in the 1970s.

Gary Allen Srery was arrested in Coeur d'Alene for rape in 2008. He was serving a life sentence when he died of natural causes in 2011.

From 1976 to 1977, four women were murdered near Calgary. Patsy McQueen, 14, Eva Dvorak, 14, Melissa Rehorek, 20, and Barbara McLean, 19.

Evidence was collected at each scene, but due to a lack of technology, the suspect was never identified.

In 2003, police confirmed that Rehorek and McLean's suspected killer were related, but were unable to identify anyone.

Between 2021 and 2022, evidence was resubmitted in the Dvorak and McQueen murders, also confirming the same suspect in all four murders.

In 2021, the Alberta RCMP partnered with the Calgary Police Service to use investigative genetic genealogy. Two years later, in 2023, Sreeri's name was identified as a match.

According to Alberta RCMP, Sreri was a US citizen living in Canada illegally.

To build a timeline, Alberta RCMP are looking for anyone who lived in the Calgary area from 1974 to 1978 or knew Sreeri through his appearance-changing efforts. Contact the Alberta RCMP Historic Homicide Unit at 780-509-3306 or [email protected].
