Fog delays PGA Championship at Valhalla, where 1-under 141 – Winnipeg Free Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – After the rain subsided, the fog moved in at the PGA Championship.

Heavy fog engulfed Valhalla on Saturday morning, causing a two-hour delay for the second round restart. This forced the organizers of the tournament to send players to the third round from three to two nines.

Xander Schauffele has a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa after 36 holes, with Masters champion Scotty Scheffler three shots back as he tries to clear his head and get back on track after the wildest day of his career.

Scheffler was arrested Friday morning during an early morning incident with Louisville police investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian. Traffic was blocked outside the gates as Scheffler tried to ease access to the club.

He ignored directions and the officer was dragged to the ground by Scheffler's vehicle, police said. He was arrested on a felony charge of second-degree assault on a police officer and three other lesser charges, booked into jail and less than an hour away from Valhalla.

Scheffler shot a 66 and later said he was “dizzy.”

A police investigation that stopped traffic delayed play for 1 hour and 20 minutes and allowed the second round to be completed.

The cut was 1-under 141, a record low for a PGA Championship weekend.

While he holds the major championship record for lowest cut – 1 under at St Andrews in 1990 and the British Open at Royal Liverpool in 2006 – the Elias Sports Bureau said 78 players finished 36 holes the most at any major. .

Two years have passed since Schauffele's last victory. He shot a 68 on Friday to take the lead for the fifth time in the last six rounds at the Wells Fargo Championship last week, closing with a 65 to overtake Rory McIlroy.

Morikawa is a two-time major champion who battled back to a 74 at the Masters before tying for third place.
