A sex offender killed four women in Calgary in the 1970s, RCMP say

(Edmonton) The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said Friday that an American sex offender killed four women aged 20 and under in Calgary in the 1970s and may have other victims.

RCMP matched the killer's DNA to profiles on ancestry-tracing websites, leading to a match with Gary Allen Sreri.

The bodies of 14-year-old Eva Dvorak and Patsy McQueen were found on February 15, 1976, under an overpass west of Calgary.

Later that spring, 20-year-old Melissa Rehorek was found dead in a ditch near a gravel road outside the city.

The following year, the body of 19-year-old Barbara McLean was found outside Calgary's then-city limits.

Gary Allen Srery was sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault when he died of natural causes in an Idaho prison in 2011.

RCMP say he has a long criminal record in the United States when he entered Canada illegally in the mid-1970s.
