All corners South St. Vital – Covered in the Winnipeg Free Press

Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright—the father of mid-century modern home design—died in 1959, but you'd swear he visited 830 Paul Boulevard in South St. Vital.

Still, the 3,176-square-foot, two-story house built in 1977 — with its trademark flat, rectangular windows high above — is clearly Lloyd Wright's design of a grand home.

Even so, it makes you do a double take as you drive east on the quiet, deserted road.

Set amidst five mature acres of land, this mid-century modern wonder offers a rare combination of country living and city conveniences.

When you take a look, you'll be intrigued even more when you notice its brick exterior and double roofline with more angles than usual.

Either way, it fits right into the rural landscape (perhaps because of its brick exterior), and it's amazing how it looks inside.

Jared Burgess of Royal LePage Top Producers says its unique interior is timeless.

“The house has undergone major renovations over the last four or five years,” he says. “Everything is updated and great.”

That sense of grandeur comes directly from the ceilings, which feature a dramatic, vaulted design that gives the spaces at the front and back of the home a spacious, airy feel.

You won't be surprised by the first room you enter—the living room to the right of the spacious foyer.

The second floor has an office and a large, family-friendly media area.

“It is stunning with vaulted pine ceilings, double crystal chandeliers, walls of windows and exotic Brazilian cherry trees. It gets the house off to a great start.”

A serenely stunning living room is just the beginning of a home that is a functional work of art.

The next space off the back of the living room is just one of several stunning spaces that provide the home with a continuous wow factor.

“As you enter from the living room into the custom dining room, the unique architecture plays with yet another vaulted pine ceiling—only this time it's in the opposite direction,” says Burgess.

Then comes the focal point of the main floor, the tastefully updated kitchen.

Oak and warm wood paneled walls give the spacious master bedroom a relaxing and inviting feel.

“It has three chairs, smooth stone counters, lots of white cabinets and drawers, a built-in induction cooktop and stainless appliances, including a wall-mounted oven. There's also a vaulted ceiling and a dining area next to a large window overlooking the south-facing courtyard.”

From there, the kitchen transitions into a sitting area that evokes the feel of a hunting lodge with a raised vaulted ceiling, wood-paneled walls and a stuffed bighorn ram's head above.

The staircase next to the seating area also creates an immediate sense of interest.

“Go upstairs and there's a loft area to the left with an office and a media area and office area that the east owners use for games and movie nights,” he says. “It's a great space.”

Return downstairs and you'll find a wing that includes four bedroom spaces: a four-piece bath, two large secondary bedrooms and a master bedroom suite.

“The remodeled bathroom is stunning with wood paneled ceiling, tub/shower with rain shower head, large window and tiled walls. A double-sink vanity sits on the left wall beneath two hexagonal mirrors and a colorful herringbone wall. It's a perfect blend of new and old.”

Nestled under a pine ceiling, the remodeled kitchen is filled with modern flair and rustic warmth.

As usual, the decoration of the bedroom wing is the master bedroom.

“Even though it's a large space, it has a warm, inviting feel that comes from the wood-paneled wall and oak hardwoods,” says Burgess. “It has a large walk-in closet and a private suite with one of the most comfortable bathtubs you could ever hope to enjoy.”
