City services return after technical glitches – Winnipeg Free Press

A technical glitch shut down public access for several hours Friday morning to some key city services, including Winnipeg Transit's Peggo fare sales and app, 311 calls and some library offerings.

The City of Winnipeg confirmed the service suspension in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly after 9 a.m. Friday.

“311 is experiencing unexpected issues and is currently unable to receive calls. We will try to solve the problem as soon as possible,” the report said.

Winnipeg Transit posted a list of issues on X just before 11 a.m., noting that it “has experienced unexpected technical issues affecting our website, app and the sale of Peggo fares.”

Around 10:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Public Library noted that its services were also affected because computers and printers were offline.

At the 9 a.m. Historic Buildings and Resources Committee meeting, members were unable to access the online agenda, prompting one member to read aloud from a previously printed copy.

City staff and councilors also sometimes lost access to email.

Services were slowly restored around 11 a.m., although some city website pages were not accessible until at least noon.

The city stressed that the issue was caused by a “hardware” problem, not a security threat.
