Open, Closed May Long Weekend – Winnipeg Free Press

With the May long weekend — and the unofficial start of summer — Monday, many Manitobans will be off work and relaxing with friends and family.

Victoria Day recognizes Queen Victoria's birthday and Canada's association with the British monarchy.

The Free press will not produce a print or electronic edition on Monday, but readers can visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news and information.

A selection of things open and closed on Victoria Day:

State services

Civil, provincial and federal offices are closed on Mondays.

No mail delivery on Monday. Canada Post offices are closed, but privately operated post offices are open according to the hours of service of the host business.

Recycling and trash

Recycling and garbage collection will be done as usual for people whose day is Monday.

The Brady Road landfill will be open Monday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The 4R Winnipeg Depot at Brady Landfill will be open Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Pacific 4R depot will be closed on Monday.

Winnipeg Transit

Buses will operate on Monday according to the Sunday schedule.

Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed on Monday.

Leisure activities

All arenas are closed on Monday.

All recreation centers are closed on Mondays, with the exception of the Pan Am Pool (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

Pools in the City of Winnipeg will be closed on Monday, with Pan Am Pool (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Margaret Grant Pool (open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) .

Crescent Drive, Harbor View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses will be open Monday.

Cemeteries

Brookside, Transcona and St. Vital cemeteries will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Brookside Cemetery will be closed Monday.

Shopping

CF Polo Park, St. Vital Centre, Garden City Shopping Centre, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and Kildonan Place will be open on Monday from 11am to 6pm.

Grant Park Mall is open on Mondays from noon to 5 p.m.

Forks Market will be open.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the True North Square location, which will be closed.

Beer retailers and private wine shops set their own hours for Victoria Day, so call ahead.

Most grocery stores will be open, but hours may vary.

Entertainment

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will host guided tours, a children's program and a presentation of the museum's aircraft, the de Havilland Canada Chipmunk, on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detailed information can be obtained from the museum website.

Assiniboine Park Zoo, Leaf and Manitoba Children's Museum are open regularly on Mondays. Although the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq is usually closed on Mondays, it will be open on Victoria Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Manitoba Museum will be closed on Monday.
