Calgary Community Center gets green upgrades

CALGARY, ALTA. – The South Fish Creek Complex Community Center in Calgary is getting a $1.2 million green upgrade from the Government of Canada, YMCA Calgary and complex partners.

The project will extend the life of the facility and improve energy efficiency through retrofits that will improve air quality and energy efficiency, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Infrastructure Canada said in a statement.

YMCA Calgary will replace its existing heating systems with more efficient models and upgrade its air handling units, according to the release.

The federal government is investing $979,800 through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. YMCA Calgary and South Fish Creek Complex partners contribute $244,950.

The improvements are expected to reduce the facility's energy consumption by about 20.5 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by 268 tons annually, the release said.
