Crews are battling a duplex fire southwest of Calgary

Firefighters battled a blaze at a duplex in southwest Calgary on Thursday.

Flames and thick smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of a home along the 2100 block of Paliswood Road.

The Calgary Fire Department received multiple 911 calls about the fire just before 5 p.m.

One caller was a resident who told CFD it started in the upstairs bathroom shower.

According to residents, they tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but it was not possible, but they managed to get out safely.

Crews started with an interior attack, but were able to extinguish the fire by deploying aerials to douse the roof with water.

A spokesperson for the Calgary Fire Department said no one was injured.

The roof and roof were badly damaged.

According to the press secretary, the house where the fire broke out is undergoing renovation.

Adjacent duplexer has smoke damage.

Crews remained on scene into the evening to check for hot spots.

The cause is still under investigation.
