A 'Tax Axes' sign has been added to Calgary's carbon tax protest

An anti-carbon tax protest in a Calgary suburb added some signs.

A “Tax Axe” sign as large as a crane hangs above the participants now standing at the intersection of Highway 1 and 22.

The slogan was coined by the leader of the federal Conservatives, Pierre Polievre, to explain his feelings about the controversial policy.

Calling themselves the Nationwide Protest Against the Carbon Tax, the protesters have vowed to continue until their goals are met “regardless of how long it takes.”

On its website, the group says its mission is to “remove the carbon tax immediately, not replace it with another form of taxation.”

Cochrane RCMP issued a statement last week advising motorists to be aware of potential delays, but there were no reports of traffic disruptions this weekend.

“Alberta RCMP and partner organizations are involved to minimize the impact on travelers and ensure that traffic disruptions do not impact public safety,” officials said in a news release.

Protests are taking place across the country, including Highway 16 near Lloydminster and Battleford, Sparwood BC and Cypress County in Alberta.
