The Calgary Ice Cream Shop in Hillhurst West is temporarily closed

Calgary ice cream shop Made by Marcus has temporarily closed its Hillhurst location after mice were found on site.

“Unfortunately, due to ongoing construction at the rear of our property, this allowed mice to enter our basement premises,” the company said in a statement shared on social media Thursday.

“Because it's an old building, the basement and foundation will have to be closed for structural repairs.”

A health inspection report on the Alberta Health Services website states that during the Sept. 13 inspection, “two live mice were observed in the basement kitchen” and “mouse droppings were observed” on walls, corners and under equipment.

“Rest assured that you are not making ice cream or food here, and as a customer, you are never at risk,” the company said on social media. “We have had no prior pest violations and received no notice from AHS prior to this closure.

“We love serving the Hillhurst community and we're sad that we won't be able to do it in the same way for a while, but we'll do everything we can to keep the ice cream in your homes and insides!”

Although the Hillhurst location is closed until further notice, the company's 17th Avenue SW and Bridgeland locations remain open.
