The Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Calgary Hitmen 6-2

The Hitmen got off to a fast start Friday night in Edmonton, but soon came crashing back to earth in a 6-2 loss to the Oil Kings.

Ethan Moore and Carter Yakemchuk scored the first two goals of the game to give the Hitmen a 2-0 lead in the first period, and Jon Szabo responded for Edmonton to make it 2-1 one period later.

Edmonton took the lead in the second on goals by Gracyn Sauchin and Ty Nash.

The Oil Kings ran away with it in the third, getting a pair from Mark Lajoie and a single from Ethan McKenzie as the Oil Kings beat the Hitmen 36-31.

The loss hurt the Hitmen's playoff aspirations. They trail the Prince Albert Raiders by five points with four games remaining.

Next up for the Hitmen is a St. Patrick's Day clash with the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Saddledome.

The puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m
